I just enrolled in Medical Care at the Hampton, Virginia VA Medical Center.
I never thought I would need assistance, but later in life issues, apparently caused by Agent Orange, brought me there.
In need of some immediate help, my newly assigned Primary Care Doctor volunteered to see me the very next day, her day off.
She is absolutely the most competent and caring doctor I have ever encountered.
On top of all that, she was born in Vietnam. She escaped from Saigon at the very end. She told of her mother covering her with her body to provide protection from the bombing.
It was a priviledge to receive such care from this person.
Regarding the center, it was almost embarrassing to hear so many "Thank you for your service" remarks. Indeed, I was overwhelmed at all the attention I received. Heck, I was only a low-rank Marine just doing my job!
I just wanted to express my thanks via this forum. Some of the posts here encouraged me to seek help. It was good advice.

Update
Well, the “Veterans” have really beaten me up since my first visit in November 2008. However, by following the program I have dropped 20 pounds. I am now within a few pounds of boot camp weight. I had always believed that my leather flight jacket – the only piece of uniform I have left – had shrunk over the years. Come to find out it now fits just fine!
My "numbers" have improved - temps and pressures almost back to normal!
The purpose of my post is to be thankful, not to brag.
I am grateful to be able to report a good outcome. I know that the Veteran's medical system has received some complaints over the years and rightfully so. I simply think that they deserve some good "press" when it is earned.
