PTSD Associated With Substance Abuse

Wednesday, Mar. 5 (Psych Central) -- manA new study of individuals seeking treatment for substance abuse found that from one-third to one-half of those seeking treatment also have posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Researchers found that individuals with a history of PTSD were more often drug- rather than alcohol-dependent, and that having PTSD was associated with a more severe course and worse outcome for an substance abuse disorder (SUD).

Results are published in the March issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.
