Subject: HMM-165 Sheet Metal NCOIC
To: arthur.colbert@gmail.com
Col. Colbert, Semper Fi. I doubt if you remember me sir but I served under You and MAJ. James in 1973 and 74 with HMM 165. I was a Sgt. when we met and was promoted to SSGt. under your command. I was NCOIC of the metal shop both for the detachment to subic bay and when we got back to Okinawa. My question is do you have any idea of how to prove to the VA that I was aboard the Uss Tripoli and the USS Okinawa in the time frame of 731015 to 731130. My SRB just give the dates and say I was tad to HMH-462 MAG-36 1st MAW FMFPac FPO SFRAN 96602. Any assistance from you would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and hope your doing well. Happy holidays and god bless.
Don

Re: How to prove I was aboard the USS Tripoli and Okinawa..
I hope you can contact HMC, and find out where the units were at that time. There should be a master record there. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

The National Archives also has Command Chronologies up through 1975. Check with them for hard-copies that aren't available online. NOTE: They charge for copies.
Re: How to prove I was aboard the USS Tripoli and Okinawa..
Guess I did leave the Q out of HMC, but thats where you are going to have to go to prove where you were at whenever. Bet they will charge a pretty penny for it, but if you have been appealing your claim, there will be enough back pay to handle it. Do it in a hurry, as many every day are writing them about something. It'd be good to be in front of them, than behind them. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.
