Navy Times 3 Nov 03 states that begining Jan Concurrent pay for others than Combat related will start a ten year phase in. Part of the Defense Budget bill. I had recieved approval for 60% combat related on 17 Sept stating that the Defense Dept would relay pay info within 60 days. Also those with disability pay other than combat related would be taxable. CRSC pay

I started recieving the phase in concurrent reciept pay in February. Now I've recieved approval for the Special Combat Related Compensation. The letter sez within 60 days, I will get information what they are doing. I mention this because all the retired guys getting over 60% disability should apply. I firmly believe that we have to give them the opportunity to help us. Let them say no. But if you don't ask, you will never know. I applied last June. Cancer is taking its toll on the Vietnam Vet. Look at how many of us have died already. I have survived two major cancer operations and I am still here. Don't know how much longer, but I'm not gonna give up! Get all that you deserve.

Concurrent Disability

I to received concurrent "retired" pay the 1st of February, but not all my retired pay was paid: According to my Retiree Account Statement my retirement pay should be $1,281 BUT::::: They only paid $750 minus 10% Taxes
for a net of $675. I wrote them a letter asking them to explain why I did not receive the full amount of $1,281, no answer! Again in March same thing $675. I sent them a E-mail & no reply as of yet.

Question: Does anyone have an update on what is support to be paid? I am 100%
VA disabled & receiving Social
Security Disability also

The concurrent disability pay is being phased in over a period of 10 years. This year if you are receiving 100% disability pay from the VA you will receive $750 that is the reason your retired pay only shows up as $750. This amount will increase each year until 2014 when members will receive their full retired pay entitlement and their VA disability compensation with no reduction. This money is taxable the same as your pension.SF

Concurrent reciept

What you are recieving is concurrent reciept under the new law that became effective this year. If you are 100% disabled, you will get the $750 minus tax.
There is a ten year feature to this law and you will get increases annually until you reach the entire amount of your retired pay.
What you need to do is apply for the Special combat related compensation which was passed last year. That, once approved will get you your total amount and that is tax free as I understand the rule. The system is not perfect but they are trying. It is up to Congress to correct all this mess.
Again as I understand the system, Social Security and VA Disability do not mix. Each one is independant of the other. You can draw both.

Good Luck.

This new pay is great for those who have approved disability.

Is there a certain percentage you must have to qualifly for this.
I'm currently 50% and retired but not yet at age 60 to draw retirement.

Disability and NOK

HELP!!! A recent widow friend of ours was just telling us this morning that because her husband died on the 25th of January, that she forfeited the entire amount for the month, and since they had already paid it, she had to reimburse the VA pronto. She sent them a check and they also took the money out of her checking account (they had direct deposit). She called them and they told her that they made a mistake and she will get her money back - in 21 days!!!Can anyone shed any light here? She is very upset about this whole deal. I can understand a pro-rated amount payback for the last 6 days of the month, but to take back the whole month?

Any and all help greatly appreciated. I told her to call her congressman right away. The government holding her money for 21 days is deplorable.
