Re: Pattie Garner wife of Robert J. Garner HMM263
I just returned from Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
Bob is resting comfortably in a well-earned VIP Suite accompanied by wife, Pattie, and his youngest daughter.
Bob is very tired, almost too tired to talk, but is alert and receptive to listening.
Couple of highlights:
Bob has been too proud to apply for Veterans Disability benefits although he is clearly entitled. I say that because one of his conditions falls under the Agent Orange category. In Virginia, survivors of disabled veterans are entitled to benefits above and beyond the Federal benefits. He does have an application in. After two years, no response except “we lost it.” So, I have taken on the task of assisting in this matter. Any further assistance and help would be welcome.
Bob sends the following:
“I have had a wonderful life. The Marines have enriched my life so much.”
Bob is scheduled to go home this afternoon. He prefers to pass away there. He will be accompanied by Hospice Nurses through Tri-Care and Medicare.
Pattie and daughter are holding up, but as you can imagine, it is tough duty.
I remain as best I can the personal point of contact.

Hand Salute Ray!
Hopefully someone here can lead you in the right direction for his family.
I wish I could help but I know nothing about the va except that when I went to them after discharge in 1970 in real pain -
the bastards outright refused to treat me - lost records also π‘
