Below is what Debbie posted on Facebook and I receive their approval to send this information out to all of you.

We really feel good about our appointment with the doctors at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The surgeon will remove the cancerous tissue on his lower lip layer by layer and with each removal, the pathology lab will check it for cancer cells. When the tissue shows no cancer, the plastic surgeon will take over and begin the reconstruction. Everything is a bit up in the air because they won't know the extent of the affected area until they remove all of the cancerous skin and lip. We saw some before and after photos of the plastic surgeon's reconstructions. The pictures were gruesome, but the end result will be okay. Jim's recovery will be painful and pretty brutal, but after a time he will have scars, but the plastic surgeon is an artist. This doctor is apparently the best plastic surgeon in Chicago land.
The surgery will be long , however we are confident it will be resolved . His recovery will be dependent upon how much of his lip and chin are affected and may be a bit drawn out because of his already compromised immune system. Thank you Acute Myeloid Leukemia (she says sarcastically).
We are waiting for the doctors to coordinate their schedules and Jim will have the surgery as soon as possible.

On a positive note,it is hard to believe that in September of this year, it will be 5 years since he was diagnosed with AML, and at the end of December, his bone marrow want transplant.
