I'd like to get more info on what it takes to get a vendor table for the 2010 reunion. Also, if there is enough interest, I could possibly contribute a free African hunting safari to be bid on in the silent auction or as a raffle. Who do I contact?
Vendor Tables
del,
vendor table info/contracts will be mailed during January. I can add you to the mailing list. Beaverton Or. the address?
Anyone else interested in offering their products at the reunion please send mailing info and I'll confirm you're on the list or add you to it.

Please put me on the "interested" list. My mailing address is Enrique del Rosario, P.O. Box 7423, Beaverton, OR 97007.
Specifically, I have two things in mind, which, I hope, are appropriate for the gathering. One is to sell/arrange African hunting safaris. The other is to contribute a free African hunting safari which could be auctioned off or be sold separately in raffle form. I'm still working on the details with the outfitter. I hope that there is some interest within the membership for such things.

π Hunting down an animal just for the sport of it is wrong. I urge the PopASmoke Directors to not allow this auction or a Vender table at the reunion.

It's understandable that some may feel as Bonehead would about sport hunting. The same son that is pictured above (then 12 years old) with my trophy kudu is not a hunter. Yet, I have a younger son who I also took to Africa the following year (at 11 years old) and he hunted and took a trophy springbok that hangs on our dining room wall and is the pride of his mother. We have not felt a need to offer apology for the trophies on our wall.
I am fully retired and spend my leisure in doing what I have enjoyed for over 50 years - travelling and hunting throughout the world. I have arranged trophy hunts for my friends who share my passion for hunting and I have not received nor asked for one penny in remuneration for it. The hunt that I would like to contribute for the purpose of raising funds for Popasmoke would take place in Namibia's Kalahari Desert on 150,000 hectares where the animals roam free. Members who are opposed to hunting would not be required to buy raffle tickets or be asked to place a silent bid.

R.T.
I'm the monitor that allowed the post.

The purpose of this offer is to help raise funds for Popasmoke. Also, it is to provide for those who are so interested, an opportunity to experience an authentic African safari.
Perhaps if hunting is too much of a "blood sport" for some an option would be to just make it a photography safari. I'll contact the African outfitter to see if they'll offer that option.
FWIW, most of the meat from the animals taken are given free to the locals who cannot otherwise afford meat in their diet. A small portion of the meat is enjoyed by the hunter and the host/hostess/professional hunter and family at a braai. Meals for the guests are prepared by the German/Afrikaner hostess and, in my opinion, some of the best dining I've ever experienced. She can also prepare vegan fare for those do not eat meat.

My remarks were made against the service provided by delRosario. I DID NOT make a personal attack towards delRosario as did R.T.FOSTER made towards me. We can disagree to disagree but leave your personal attacks out of it. Slick is a monitor and does not issue GAG Orders.

Most are different
Hey guys if there is another thing I learn while in the Marines! There sure is
different ways to do and think about almost anything. Sure do pray that we all can respect each other and continue on doing those things to Help one another
even when we may disagree. With whats happening to our Country we need more then ever to Unite and be the strong ones to help America out of these dark times. Please don't be offended because I do not mean it that way. So God Be with you ALL and our Country too. Semper FI
No offense taken, Bonehead.
Understandably, there will be a diversity of opinions and passions in any large group such as our organization. And though I know that you must have a justifiable reason for your disapproval of the sport I dearly love, I also think that it may be beyond the bounds of protocol for you to ask the organization's Board of Directors to ban another member's contribution based on your personal bias. The membership of Marines are each capable, I'm sure, of making intelligent and mature decisions as to whether to participate in a raffle or silent auction for a hunting safari, or not.

I did not make a personal attack, I said ''SHOULD'' I be able to make the remark (bonehead) in response to not allowing this package or vender. As to the monitering, it all started as pretty argumentative to me. So I took it up that way. No offense, just my opinion.
Getting Good
I think you all are doing a great job in getting things done. Always been said 2 heads are better then one,in this case not bad to get even more to gather
and solve it. Are all you planning on going to the Reunion 2010.Reno? Sure will be nice to put a face to the names. Semper FI π
Differing points of view, whether it be a del Rosario idea or a Bonehead comment, is sign of a healthy organization.
For those who are interested, a hunter on an African hunting safari is waited on hand and foot, with expert guides and local trackers to help find the trophies, and skinners, so that the hunter does not have to do any skinning or boning of the animal, unless one is so inclined.
