For uncommon valor.
Forward he charges against his senses will,
in his heart courage does fill,
to save a wounded mate,
this brave man cares not about his own fate.
Into a hail of bullets he does run,
to save a wounded or trapped mate is not for fun,
to save a life he sometimes has to bring death,
often with his own dying breath.
When many a man would stay behind,
a hero he becomes, one that is hard to find.
Uncommon valor makes a man do things that seem insane,
but only he knows that there is so much to gain.
For this uncommon valor a medal they do give,
many do not see their medal, as they no longer live.
That cross he wears upon his chest,
shows he did more than his very best.
That medal is made of bronze with a ribbon of blood red
when a General sees a lowly Private wearing this cross, well,
enough is said,
the General knows the score,
and that the Private did his bit, and by far much more.
But it is rare to see
a man wearing the VC
most who get it pay the highest cost,
for in saving their mates, often their life is lost.
Lest we forget.
Private Sir Andrew Bass.

If you protest wars, remember that it is the blood of the soldiers who shed theirs for your right to protest them.
