She waved "good-bye" then wept...and waited...and prayed...
As the open wound of parting suppurated in fear and dread
Into the malignancy of emptiness.
In her torment she cursed her country for sending him,
And the enemy for opposing him,
And him for leaving her waiting...
And weeping...
And praying...
And finally, herself for hoping...until the official notice arrived.
She'd known in her heart the instant he'd died,
and fashioning shattered dreams into a private hell,
She crawled inside,
...and never returned.
She was buried beside him in nineteen ninety-eight.
