(Lt.Col. Ret. USMC) William John Burrows, age 72, passed away Wednesday October 7, 2009 at his residence in Dumfries, Virginia following a long illness.

Mr. Burrows was born September 25, 1937 in Battle Creek, Michigan and was the son of Lester and Margaret (Long) Burrows.

William was honorably discharged as a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Marine Corps following a 23 year career as a Helicopter and C130 Pilot. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodbridge and a member of the choir. He also was a member of the Valle del Oro choir in Mesa, Arizona. He belonged to Ira A. Beck Masonic Lodge #503.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ruth Burrows; two sons, Thomas Burrows and his wife Carolyn or Stafford, Virginia and Timothy Burrows and his wife Amber of Gainesville, Virginia; one daughter, Tameral Carter Burrows of Dumfries, Virginia; Three brothers, John Burrows and his wife Jan of Grand Rapids, Michigan, James Burrows of Battle Creek, Michigan and Mark Burrows and his wife Denise, of Battle Creek, Michigan. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Tiffany Prince, Brittany Prince, Meghan Burrows and Ryan Burrows.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Mountcastle Life Celebration Funeral Home in Dale City, Virginia. Funeral services will be held a 1:00 PM Tuesday October 13, 2009 at the Quantico Marine Base Chapel. The interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetary in Triangle, Virginia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Marine Corps Museum, 3800 Fettler Park Drive, Suite 104, Dumfries, Virgina 22025 or the First Baptist Church of Woodbridge, 13600 Minnieville Road, Woodbridge, Virginia 22193 or to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 3832 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.
