My good friend F. Wayne Hurlbut died of agent orange on Dec. 23, 2003. He was fighting three different cancers at the time of his death. Hurly was born in Jennings, Louisiana Sept. 21, 1939 and died in McAllen, Texas. He was an active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church where a memorial service was held on Dec. 27, 2003. He is survived by his son Steve ( USMC ) and daughter Niki. Capt. Wayne Hurlbut was my flight instructor at HT-8 and I took my first H-34 hop with him. In August of 1966 Hurly and I became members of HMM-163 in Okinawa on our way to Viet Nam.Hurly took many of the young pilots under his wing and helped us along the way. He was an outstanding pilot who helped many of us make it back alive. Wayne Hurlbut was an active member of The USMC/Vietnam Helicopter Association. Hurly will be sadly missed by many.
