I recently came across an obituary in my local newspaper for a Thomas F. O'Toole Jr. It doesn't say he flew on helicopters, but it does say he was a Marine pilot with 379 missions. It says he was in Vietnam in 1966. He was originally from Boston and served in the Corps from 1958-1975. Does anyone know this Marine?
JD,
We had an O'Toole, but he is Tim.

Thomas O'Toole
I knew Tom O'Toole in 1969-1970. I was stationed at FMFLANT in Norfolk. Tom and I were both on the G-3 staff in the Training office. I was the G-3 NATOPS and Tom was an Assistant training officer. Tom was a Captain at the time and I believe he was an artillery officer and had been an A/O. I am sure he was not a naval aviator but he had done a lot of back seat flying, most of which was in the old bird-dog according to him. Tom had lots of good stories and could embellish with the best of them. A flamboyant dresser from the word go. He had a wild green and black sports coat which he wore with a bright yellow tie and yellow pants to parties etc. He was an interesting guy and always up-beat. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

Capt Tom O'Toole FAC(A) Vietnam
I am writing a story for my web site, talkingproud.us about Vietnam FACs, all services, who flew aboard the O-1 Bird Dog. In search around for material, I happened on a web site at http://www.hmm-364.org/niuatoa-m.html that talks about Capt Tom O'Toole serving as a FAC(A), I assume back seat observer, and his work in and around Khe Sanh Hill 885. I also happened across your thread so thought I would let you know about this article. π
