My husband, Stanley "Mike" Tanner, passed away at our home on September 14, 2013.
He served in the USMC from June 16, 1968 through June 16, 1972. He was in the Da Nang/Marble Mountain area of Viet Nam for two tours of duty: from 1968-1971. He was a helicopter door gunner, and in Avionic Electronics. He was entitled to the following awards:
He also earned his sharpshooter, flight wings, and parachute badges.
Mike leaves me, (his wife of 42 years), A grown son and daughter, their spouses, five grandchildren ages 19 to 2 behind, along with siblings, other family and friends. He first became sick in 1996 with agent orange related lung, brain and abdominal cancer that was supposed to be "terminal." Miraculously, he survived that. In 2007, he had a stroke, and in 2012 was diagnosed, again, with agent orange related aggressive B Cell lymphoma, which finally brought him down...after surviving longer than expected. Mike was always cheerful, and rarely complained. He requested that I share this with his fellow Marines, after he passed. We had a GREAT send-off. He wanted to be buried in his dress blues, and we had the flag folding, 15 gun salute and live bugle player end with Taps. His love for our country, and his service was exemplary.
Sincerely,
Dina Tanner
