I see that the arrangements have been posted to popasmoke. Arrangements for a family burial at Arlington are not yet known. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the USMC League.

Thank you for helping post this information for my grandad's Marine friends to keep informed.

My name is Jonell Conger, My Grandfather is Rick, but he raised me since the age of 2 so I only know him as my Dad. I just came in from Camp Casey, Korea to go to his funeral. He meant the world to me, the reason I joined and love the military. He gave me the USMC standard for life and for that I will always love the USMC almost as much as he did. Popasmoke meant so much to him, through the bond of Vietnam and the military. I just, its really hard right now, but as a soldier I just wanted to thank you for all you have done for my Dad and our country.

Happy Holidays

In memory of Rick ..........

Rick, you will be missed!

I really enjoyed my two visits with you in your home.

The first time meeting Connie and enjoying both your excellent hospitality, and the
conversation.

The first time, I got "snowed in" in DC and you never let me live it down, over getting lost on the
circuitous DC roadways in my attempt at getting back to my hotel in Rockville.

You and I continued to have a good laugh over that episode. :):):):)

On my second visit, (albeit under better weather conditions 🙂 ), I had the opportunity to meet Connie
again and a couple of your daughters.

The thing to remember is that your home was always open with welcoming arms to any old Marine that came along.

On another forum, I referred to you Rick, as "a Prince among men".

You were all of that.

Never was your warm welcoming smile missing for any and all of your fellow man.

Rest well, my friend.

The first attached pic is of Connie & Rick, the second is of Mike with Rick.

The third is of Rick with Paul Moore. The fourth is Paul Moore, Rick and Bo Honeycutt at Bill Woidyla's grave site in Quantico.

Rick's service.

The three of you represented us well at the service, Slick.

Many thanks. Semper Fidelis !

Thanksgiving week, I was a pallbearer at a Marine friend's funeral, it never gets any easier.

The three of you stood well for the rest of us.

Rest In Peace, Rick! Semper Fi!

There he lies, on 9 Jan 2008 at 1100E, in his final resting place on the top of a small knoll in Arlington National Cemetery under a beautiful hardwood tree in its barren winter garb. It is January. The weather is 68 degrees with bright sunshine when the burial flag is presented to Mrs Hargreaves and seven Marines fire a 21 gun salute. The Marines Corps bugler adds "Taps" and Rick is free from all cares, surrounded by other veterans who have also served their country well.

We will not forget your pleasant demeanor, your love for your family and your love of your Corps.

Many of the members of Popasmoke owe a lot to the wisdom he provided when we transferred our original membership database to the digital format in which it now resides back around the turn of the 21st century. First you told me how to do it and then you realized that it would be better if you just did it.

Just go to

 https://www.popasmoke.com/members/

to see the results of Rick's efforts, later modified as necessary by Wally Beddoe.

Rest in Peace, Rick!
SEMPER FI!
