For those who didn't know, Bob was injured in a fireworks accident around the first of the year. He fought the good fight since his injury, enduring many painful surgeries. He never gave up the fight, and his wife Monika and son Brandon fought along side of him all the way. Although I didn't know Bob personally, his battle to survive was inspirational to me. I followed his saga daily on http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/roberttremaine . He fought like a Marine. My prayers are with Monika, Bandon and their family. Godspeed Bob.

Robert E. Tremaine
Mr. Barber,
Thank you so much for posting Bob's obituary on the Popasmoke website.
We received beautiful flowers from his friends from HMM-164/165.
I don't know these gentlemen and I don't know how to contact them,
but I would like to say Thank You to all of them on behalf of myself and my son Brandon.
I appreciate your kindness.
Sincerely,
Monika Tremaine

I sent a note to Monica with a bunch of 164/165 email addresses.
Hope she gets some replies.
For what it is worth, I never saw Bob happier than I did the last few years, AFTER, marrying Monika.
DFW Veterans Cemetery
I had to go to a funeral for a Marine at the DFW Veterans Cemetery yesterday.
It is across Mountain Creek Lake from the old NAS Dallas.
This is the same place where Bob Tremaine was buried a week or two back.
It's only been there for 10 years and already has 30,000 interments. It is mainly for
veterans and family members. Word is, it will hold 300K.
After the funeral, I swung back up to the north side of the lake and West Jefferson
and down Camden Road to the gate of the old NAS. It is now an Army Reserve base.
I talked my way onto the Army Reserve base using my driver’s license and my 42
year old ID from when I mustered out.
There are only two things recognizable on the station.
The round entry house just inside the gate and one old hanger that is in the process
of collapsing.
All the other buildings had been torn down and replaced with new ones. Including
the brig. It was one of those with bent pipes on the ceiling and red lines painted
on the floor.
I guess that one shouldn’t expect much else after 44 years.
As usual :o:o I didn't have my camera with me. :(:(
It seems like just the other day...
Gosh, this is a shocker.. I don't usually read obits and this is probably why. I had no idea and it seems like yesterday we were exchanging emails.
I was recently so excited when I found Cisco Martinez in Colorado especially after tracking down Bob when he moved to Texas.
I had no idea? I had no idea? What a shocker...!
It is time to close the bar, turn out the lights and close the hanger door once more. This is becoming all to frequent.
