I just got an e-mail message that my buddy Richie Cortigine has passed.I've known him since 1965 when we were both with HMM-262 in New River. Rich was a tinpecker and I was a bubble chaser. He lived in Philly and we made the weekend swoop almost ever weekend together. I've been in contact with him since then and often met with him at Cookie's Tavern in Philly especially on Nov 10th. I'll miss him a lot, TAPS Bro!
Again one of the Few!
Sorry to hear of another one of our Marine family has past away. Tim for you it will be a bit closer so I will remember you in my prayers. God be with Richie's Family and love ones at this time . ..........Semper Fi

Richard P. Cortigine
"Richie"
(12 AUG 1946 -- 26 APR 2010)
It is my extremely sad duty to inform you that one of own, an Old Tiger, a friend, a Marine has "Returned To Base".
"Richie" Cortigine was one of our "First Tour" Old Tigers in Vietnam 1966-1967. He worked in the Metal Shop. Some of you will remember him from the Caribbean Cruise not to long prior to our deployment to RVN.
Richie passed away peacefully in his sleep last Monday at his home in Philadelphia, PA. Old Tiger Tim McMahon is a close friend of Richie's but will not be able to get back into town prior to the funeral. So, as Richie has no known living relatives, it would be gratefully appreciated if any of you Old Tiger Brothers can attend his funeral services this coming Saturday. Please let me know if you can make it so I can inform some of his friends from the neighborhood.
Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 10:00 AM at:
Stella Maris Catholic Church
10th & Bigler
Philadelphia, PA
Followed by Burial at:
St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery
1600 Sproul Rd.
Springfield (Marple Township), PA 19064
Old Tiger Tim McMahon has interceded with his contacts and has confirmed that the "Patriot Guard" will assist where they can and the "VFW", they will provide some support as well. (Thanks Timmy)
I have spoken with Richie's Attorney, the Executor of Richie's affairs. He has assured me that Richie will receive the honors and the funeral he so rightly deserves. I have also spoken with the Funeral Director, Paul Stofol, who confirms that he has already contacted HQ Marine Corps and has received confirmation that a USMC Detail will be dispatched to assist with the Flag Ceremony.
Rest in peace, my friend....
"With pain in our hearts,
And a tear in the eye;
We are proud to have served with this Marine,
