Dear Pop-a-smoke and Marine Friends:

Around 0545 this morning, my Father Ron Penninger, passed away. My mother was there, and I arrived just as he finished his final breath. My Mother asked me to let all his Marine and Pop-a-smoke buddies know as soon as possible. He loved you guys so much. He often told me great sea-stories about all of you from around the world. He will be buried at Quantico National Cemetery in the near future. We haven't made arrangements yet. I'll let you all know as soon as I can.

The arrangements are being handled by...

Covenant Funeral Service - Stafford
1310 Courthouse Rd.
Stafford, Virginia 22554
(540) 658-9221

You can also call my Mom or me at 703-819-1962 or at 540-752-0183.

Thanks for all the concern and great words of encouragement for Dad and our family. He loved hearing from his buddies.

-Ron Penninger (Son)

Fair Winds and Following Seas

My condolences and deep heartfelt regret on the passing of Ron Penninger. I was stationed with Ron at HMX in the 70's and he was one hell of a Marine with a great sense of humor and mechanical skills that matched no other. I hope the good lord appreciates the new addition to his guard detachment. He will find no finer Marine..Sincerely, Bill McMillian

Dear Bill McMillian,

Any chance that MSgt. Penninger served with HMM-362 in Vietnam?

We don't show him on the all-time roster but there are plenty of missing guys on our lists.

Ron Penninger was one my good friends. He was in 261 in Vietman I believe in 1963. H served in some fleet squadrons, then went to Vietnam in 68 and served with HMH-463, in 1969 he reported to HMX-1, and servedd as Crew Chief for President Richard Nixon, He served in HMX-1 until 1977 and was transferred to Okinawa and served in HMH-462. Following Okinawa He returned to HMX and remained there until his retirement in 1982. He was a superb aircraft mechanic, he could be a little tough if yerent working up standard. H had a terrific sense of humer. He will be missed.

No Romey, he never served in HMM-362.

K.D.

Attended Ron's funeral at Quantico today with a large group of family and friends.
Service ended with a 53 flyover provided by HMX. A fitting and touching tribute to true Marine.

Ron will be missed.
