Below is the Obituary for MGySgt Tommy Thompson from the Together We Served website. He was my Maintenance Chief in HMH-362 before I left Active Duty in 1988. The last time I saw him was in Saudi Arabia During Desert Storm, he tacked on my Combat Wings. We then had a long discussion about when I would tack on my SSgt rocker and what was it like being in a Reserve Huey Squadron. He had a big influence on me as a young Sgt and he will be missed, Semper Fi and God's Speed Top Thompson.

Tommy Calvin "TC" Thompson detached from his present duty assignment, June 18, 2011, after a long painful fight with cancer and reported for duty with "The" Commander in Chief. He is survived by his attentive and loyal wife Candie Thompson, his children who have made him proud. Donna Bright of Albuquerque, NM. Barbie Blalock of Mocksville, NC and husband Jeff, Sheri Mason of Burgaw, NC and husband Mitch, John Thompson of New Bern, NC and wife Dorothy, Khristi Nunnally of Jacksonville, NC and husband Nick, stepdaughter Kimberlee Smith of Jacksonville, NC and stepson Mark Smith, USN, Newport News, VA, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren all who have been a bright spot in his life and transition to his final resting place. A funeral service will be held 9:00 AM Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home of Jacksonville with Rev. D. B. Stokes officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. While on active duty, which included 30 years and 8 days active duty, he attained the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. Assigned as a crew chief on the UH-34D helicopter during the Vietnam War conflict he was awarded three Purple Heart Medals as well as thirteen Air medals, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Vietnamese Unit Citation with palm and silver Combat Aircrew Wings. Master Gunnery Sergeant Thompson served as Helicopter Maintenance Chief during operation Desert storm of Medium Marine squadron HMM-266 and over the rest of his Marine Career he was awarded the Arctic service ribbon, Kuwait liberation medal( Kuwait), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia). Navy Unit Commendation ribbon. Combined Unit Commendation ribbon, Sea Service ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (10 Awards), Gold Air Crew Wings. Joint Services Commendation Ribbon, Navy Unit Appreciation ribbon and Meritorious Service Medal. He was also awarded Expert Rifle and Pistol Badges. After retirement from the Marine Corps, "TC" was employed by Raytheon Aerospace, L3Aerospace, Carco Carrier Corporation, Sikorsky LLC, and General Dynamics primarily working on the CH-53E either physically or as an airframe expert. He fought the good fight against several types of cancers The pain and treatment was almost unbearable but with the care and love of his wife Candie he fought through to the end with as much dignity as possible. "Semper Fi to those I leave behind." The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home of Jacksonville.
