Louis J. Sessinger, Jr., affectionately known as "Dewey" to close childhood and family friends, passed away on February 24, 2025. Born in Atlantic City, NJ, on April 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Louis J. Sessinger, Sr., and Anna "Nancy" (nee Barrett) Sessinger. In addition to his parents, Lou was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and Tommy. He resided in Sellersville, PA, where he lived a life filled with love, storytelling, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Lou is survived by his three children: Mike Sessinger and his wife, Amanda, and their children—Elizabeth, Cameron, and Riley; Megan Smith and her children—Mason, Grace, and Gavin; and Kate Coleman and her husband, Ted, and their children—Colin and Morgan. A devoted grandfather, "Pop," adored his eight grandchildren, cherishing every conversation, story, and moment spent with them, especially sharing tales of his childhood at the family's beloved Jersey Shore.
A graduate of Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City, Lou went on to attend LaSalle College before making the selfless decision to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps. He proudly served our country in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969, earning an honorable discharge. For his bravery, he was awarded the Air Medal with Bronze Star and the Purple Heart Medal. Following his active service, Lou remained dedicated to his brothers in the VMO-6 Airwing of the USMC. He attended various reunions across the country with his fellow Marines throughout the years.
Upon his return, he completed his undergraduate degree at LaSalle College and later earned a Master’s degree from Villanova University. Lou began his career teaching English at North Penn High School before transitioning to journalism. He became a respected reporter, editor, and columnist for the Daily Intelligencer, covering local news events. Additionally, Lou had the opportunity to cover stories in Taiwan, Israel, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and East Africa. His love for sharing life stories was rivaled only by his love for the ocean. Growing up at the shore, he was a true "beach boy," as a teenager working on a commercial fishing boat, surfing and fishing whenever he had the chance. In his youth, Lou was a gifted athlete, excelling in both football and basketball.
An avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, Lou took great joy in celebrating the team’s recent Super Bowl victory surrounded by family and friends down the shore. He had an eclectic taste in music, a brilliant mind, and was an avid reader with an unparalleled gift for trivia—qualities that left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He has touched so many and will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
Lou's love for the world was selfless. His care, unwavering. He dedicated his time to serving others. From supporting the VVA to making sandwiches for the homeless community, his love knew no bounds. He lived to love, and loved to give. Lou's legacy will largely be remembered by the lives he touched—every sacrifice made out of love, never for recognition.
A funeral service will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on Friday, March 21, 2025, promptly at 9:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at the Plumsteadville Inn at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Lou and his adored kitten, Siobhon, contributions can be made to HoofBeats and PawPrints Rescue at hoofbeatsandpawprintsrescue.org.
