For those of you that didn't know John, a fine Marine and great Huey pilot. He will be missed, but I'm sure he's giving NATOPS checks to those Huey drivers up Above. I had my last UH1E checkride with him. Semper Fi, Y'all.

John Henry Key

I met Capt Key at VMO-1 in New River where he was an instructor pilot putting up with the likes of Ben Brenneman, Roger Peterson, Jeff Picket, Dick Gregson and Bill Miles (me) as we transitioned to the Huey out of Pensacola...he was an excellent pilot and instructor, and a fine mentor to us newbies...when we all completed our tours in RVN, John Henry rejoined most of us at HML-267 at Camp Pendleton...he was wearing a partial wig on the left side of his head to cover the burn marks from landing a Huey that was on fire from enemy fire...his right arm was also scarred from the fire as he kept his hand in the flames to maintain his grips on the collective and cyclic...he never complained about his wounds or the hair piece, in fact he would take it of on occasion in a humorous way...when it was in place there was no hint whatever that it was a hairpiece...John Henry Key was an excellent Marine and aviator...my heartfelt condolences go to his family and all of his loved ones...Semper Fi, John Henry, and God bless you. Bill Miles VMO-1 / VMO-6 '67, 68' RVN

God bless, and...

Semper Fi!

Bill Miles
