From Frenchy LaFountaine
Jim "Wizzy" Wissmar , HMM-165 Crew Chief, Vietnam.
Wizzy passed around 1100 today, 26 NOV 2013 after a short bout with a different cancer that he beat into submission some years back.Wizzy spent multiple tours in RVN and crewed the first CH-46 to survive 1000 flight hours.
Wizzy started out, founding and maintaining, the HMM-165 Vietnam Association and Reunion after the 1992 Washington DC Reunion, then known as The USMC/Vietnam Helicopter Pilots & Aircrew Reunion.
The 1994 Reunion at Pensacola Beach produced one of the largest gatherings of HMM-165 Squadron personnel since the Vietnam War, and was in no small part due to Wizzy's tireless efforts to bring all the HMM-165 folks back into the fold.
WIzzy loved his Squadron and Squadron mates, and was loved and respected in return !
We'll miss you Wizzy!l
Semper Fi!

TAPS, RIP Bro
Re: Jim "Wizzy" Wissmar
Shocked, saddened. Wizzy was one of the first of Vietnam crew chiefs to come to HMX-1 when I was there before going over myself.
He helped me locate a couple guys I served with when I first joined here. Went up the road to Canton one day for lunch and made sure I stopped by the 165 hooch at the last couple PAS reunions. RIP Bro.
Re: Jim "Wizzy" Wissmar
Wow, didn't even know he was ill....He helped me get in touch with several of my HMM-165 friends and kept me talking on the phone into the wee hours many moons ago...
RIP my friend
Re: Jim "Wizzy" Wissmar
