Schrenk, Walter
March 26, 1946 - July 3, 2017
With deep sorrow we announce the sudden passing of beloved husband, father, brother, and friend Walter Schrenk, 71, of Tustin.
Walter, "Wally" was born in Lebenstedt, Germany to his parents Martin and Mathilda Schrenk. He was the second youngest of eight children and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1951.
In 1966, he enlisted and joined the Marine Corps and was transferred to the Third Marine Aircraft Wing in Tustin, CA. He served two consecutive tours in Vietnam and returned back to the Tustin Helicopter Base in 1970. It was there that he met his wife Margrit, "Maggie" on a blind date and they were married six months later. During his 20 years in the Marine Corps, Wally received numerous medals and commendations before retiring in 1986.
Upon his retirement, Wally went to work for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing as a technical aircraft maintenance training instructor where his duties took him all over the world. Once the facilities in Long Beach closed, he was asked to stay on and work remotely from home for five more years until his eventual retirement in 2013. Even though he spent much time away from home on his teaching assignments, he indulged his wife's passion for traveling and they managed to visit all seven continents on their many trips.
Wally is survived by his loving wife Maggie, his daughter Christina who was the apple of his eye, one surviving brother, four sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services and committal with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Riverside National Cemetery at 11:00am with a reception following at American Legion Post 291 in Newport Beach at 1:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded WarriorProject, Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, or () Charitable Service Trust will be greatly appreciated.
