Dear Family and Friends of Ed DeSaussure,

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ed DeSaussure on Tuesday, October 12th, at his home in University Park, Maryland. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family, his body overtaken by cancer.

Ed met life headfirst, living it to the fullest. Thus, he left nothing undone. So was his life, so was his death. He was a considerate man of honor and left his family and friends fully prepared to move forward.

We invite you to join us on November 23rd for his service at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC), where he will be buried with full military honors. We plan to meet at the ANC Administration Building no later than 10:30 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate our father's life. Please let us know if you think you can attend and we will send you details of the reception that will follow his burial.

With warmest regards,

Rick DeSaussure and Ann DeSaussure Davidson

Ed

Ed helped us set up at the Wall on a number of occasions. He was also the HMM-265 coordinator in Reno. I will miss him.

"a considerate man of honor" is an understatement.

he will be missed by all who had the great pleasure of knowing him.

One of the last pieces of correspondence I received from Ed included the following quote. I have to think it speaks to his own character

a statement Lincoln made in 1862, after he was criticized by Congress for military blunders during the Civil War: “If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how—the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right will make no difference.”

My condolences to the Family. Glad he is at rest now, with no Pain. Ed had to be in my Squadron before I joined it, as I didn't fly with him. God Bless you all. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.

we lost a real Marine

I had the honor of spending a week with ED the last of September. We kept each other laughing. Everytime we went out for dinner he would ask for a "
romantic table for two". Everyone Knows him and they played along. The last time I saw him was the 28th when he left me off at the airport. My wife and I will be going back east for Ed's service. I miss the calls to ED and the crazy things we said.

Kham Duc Group

It is Great Ed and his Crew were there to pull you out. I am not sure how large the Group was, but I do hope he had a Wingman and Crew to help in the extraction. It is Sad that one can go from seemingly good Health, to passing, in only a few months. I believe the Service will be well attended. SEMPER FI, ED.

Farewell to Ed

Ed was put to rest today at Arlington National Cemetary. He had a platoon from 8th & I, Drum & Bugle Corps and the Caisson. In honor of Ed's DFC a flyover of 2 Phrogs from HMX-1 flew over the caisson and cemetary. Fitting tribute.
