It is my sorrowful task to inform you of the passing of one of your lifetime members, Mr. Charles "Charlie" L. Cornwell, Jr. of Callaway, MD. I hope you will distribute this information on your website and to your members. His information in your database is CORNWELL, CHARLES, L. MD 20620 PRIMSqdrn: HMH-463 MemberExpDate: 9999/99/99.

The link to his obituary is at http://www.brinsfieldecholsfuneral.com/obituaries/dsp_files/dsp_viewobit.cfm?obit_ID=3270

He was my best friend here at NAS Patuxent River, MD, where we presently worked together as Program Analyst contractors at NAVAIR HQ. He spoke fondly and often about his memories of the Pop-a-Smoke Reunion he attended in Pensacola many years ago --- especially about the flyover of his beloved H-34's on the beach (he re-upped for a 2nd tour so he could deploy with the CH-53A's). He wasn't feeling well enough to attend the 2008 Reunion in D.C.

After he retired, he kept serving his beloved Marine Corps by working on many programs as a contractor. In his last job, he was working in the NAVAIR HQ program office PMA272 for Tactical Aircraft Protection Systems on countermeasure systems to be integrated onto CH-53's, among other aircraft. He will be greatly missed.

With heavy heart,
Brent Wilson
Lexington Park, MD

Charlie Cornwell, Jr.

I was with Charlie in HMH-361 at Tustin around 1980 when he was promoted from SSGT. to WO. Charlie was a fine Marine and all of us in Maintance Control are better from having known him.

Re: Charles "Charlie" L. Cornwell, Jr.

I was Charlie;s 1st mech on YH-22 . We flew a lot together from Aug 68 thru most of Nov 68. My last flight on YH-22 with Charlie was 20 Nov 68 , Operation Meade River. I have a few photos of Charlie, he was a true Marine and I was so very fortunate to have served with him. Over the years I have thought of him, I was very saddened to here of his death. I will not forget him. SEMPER FI CHARLIE R.I.P. Mike Britton
