BONNIE SUE (HMM-265) and Recon Team SOMERSAIL ONE

MY FIRST COUSIN, L/CPL DENNIS CHRISTIE WAS A RECON PASSENGER ABOARD THE ILL FATED JUNE 11th, 1967 BONNIE SUE INSERTION FLIGHT.

DENNIS' RECON TEAM MATES, INCLUDING HIS TRAINING PARTNER, DAVID MORAGNE, HAVE MADE SEVERAL TRIPS TO VIET NAM TO FIND THE CRASH SITE OF THEIR BROTHER MARINES. ONCE LOCATED, DAVID MORAGNE, DENNIS'S YOUNGER BROTHER, CRAIG CHRISTIE, PLUS THE BROTHER OF ANOTHER RECON PASSENGER, HAVRANEK, AND OTHERS PLACED A SPECIALLY DESIGNED MEMORIAL PLAQUE AT THE CRASH SITE HONORING THE PILOTS, FLIGHT CREW AND RECON TEAM.

FOR OVER 10 YEARS DAVID HAS SPENT MUCH TIME, EFFORT AND PERSONAL FUNDS TO MAKE A VIDEO DOCUMENTARY OF THIS TRAJEDY, INCLUDING INTERVIEWS OF MYSELF, MY MOTHER (DENNIS' AUNT) AND MANY MORE FRIENDS FAMILY & EYE WITNESSES.

THE DOCUMENTARY IS NEAR COMPLETION HOWEVER HE NEEDS MORE VIDEO OF HELICOPTER INSERTIONS/RETRACTIONS IN VIET NAM, PARTICULARLY WITH THE H-46, HOWEVER ANY OTHER CHOPPERS WOULD BE USEFUL TOO.

DAVID MORAGNE HAS ASKED THAT I CONTACT OUR ASSOCIATION FOR ANY 8MM, VIDEO (PREFERRED) OR STILL SHOTS OF MARINE INSERTION/RETRACTION ACTION DURING THE WAR - IN ANY TIME FRAME.

ERNIE SPENCER, AUTHOR OF "WELCOME TO VIET NAM MACHO MAN", HAS BEEN SELECTED AS THE PRODUCTION MANAGER OF THIS DOCUMENTARY AND I HAVE AGREED TO ASSIST WITH THE MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION.

ONE BODY FROM THE CRASH HAS BEEN LOCATED, IDENTIFIED AND RECENTLY BURIED IN ARLINGTON. I HAVE AGREED TO A DNA SAMPLE FOR POSITIVE ID OF MY COUSIN.

THESE PHOTOS, MOVIES AND VIDEOS ARE NEEDED ASAP AND I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOU KIND ASSISTANCE IN THIS REGARD.

46 footage

While in HML-367 i shot some footage of a mornings inserts and extracts from our gunship . I recently had the 8mm film transfered to a digital format. We were covering the 46's in the zone, so the footage is "up close and personal" since we were diving to 200 feet or so (and shooting) to get the recon team out. I will be happy to send a DVD of the footage to wherever you want. I have been wanting to share this footage with POPASMOKE for some time since the footage begins with a red smoke in the landing zone.
