I have a friend named Tommy Evans, with whom I served a tour on the Drill Field at MCRD, PISC, in 1964, 65 & 66. Tommy came to PI with Air Crew wings and had been part of the first group of choppers to go to Nam as a Cpl. I do remember he was a mech but don't know if it was on Deuces or H-34's!
At any rate, he redesignated into Intelligence, and in 1967 was assigned to 1stWing G-2. At that time he was a SSgt and because he had never obtained a security clearance, he was assigned to the map room until his clearance was approved. While on Christmas leave at his home in New Jersey, he took the test for the NJ State Police. Just prior to his enlistment being up he recieved notice that he passed the test, and since the Corps wouldn't give him a clearance he got out, and the rest is history as they say. At any rate he went on to retire as a LT with the NJSP and now is Director of Police at Drew University.
I finally got in touch with him after almost 30 years but I thought that if any of you served with him, he would appreciate an invitation to the reunion and to join Popasmoke! He had about 12 years in the Corps as I recall, so you folks that were in the Wing in the late 50's - early 60's may remember him.
His e-mail address is TEvans@Drew.edu

There was a CPL Tom Evans in HMM162 at New River, Thailand and Vietnam in 61 thru 63. He was a H34 crew chief. Can't remember if he was in my section, but I lost contact with him after we returned to states. I know he was from NJ. Great crew chief and hard worker!!
We had a Tommy Evans with our UH-34Ds in HMM-363 1967-68
