I was a Lt. at FOB 1 in late '67 and most of '68. In November '67, I led a large Brightlight Team into rescue/recover ST Utah and several Helicopter crews downed in the area, including JG 26. Some of us who were there are gathering this Memorial Day weekend at my home in Edmond, OK. to meet each other (many for the first time) and revisit that mission. In that regard, I have no way to contact anyone who might have been with the Kingbees. We would like to invite anyone who was there from VNAF, and you, if you would be interested. It was a little before your time there but you would enjoy the people and we would enjoy having you there. I've also had a problem finding any gunship guys from an Army unit that supported the team and JG's on the night of Nov 8/9, and USMC gunship guys who were there for us on the morning of the 9th through extraction on the 11th. Could you offer any suggestions or contact info that might be helpful.

Have a good one,
Gamble

Sog '67

Hi Gamble,
Sorry this is so late in responding, I don't check this website as often as I should. I was with VMO-6, Huey Guns from Dec 66-Jan 68, and as long as my bird would fly and the opportunity came up, I would volunteer for a SOG mission. But, the competitition was fierce. Most of the Crew Chiefs of Klondike and Cadaver (our call signs) volunteered, and they only RTB when their bird was in deperate need of repairs...then some one else got to go. I got to fly a lot of SOG missions, although today I don't really remember too many of the details.
We did all we could to support the Kingbees and they guys we were either putting in or trying to get back out again.
I am real pleased to hear, you made it home.

November 67

Rick,
Thanks for the response and kind words. Our reunion is coming together and I would really like to find the USMC Gunship guys. As you said, they hung with us until after dark on the 9th and were able to extract Gerry Young, pilot of JG 26 and MOH recipient for this mission. If you would like more info on our get-together, drop me a line at gcd3@cox.net.

Welcome home,
Gamble
