I received this request for info. Can anyone help?

I was assigned to VMO-1 Avionics at New River from May 68 to Nov 70.
I won't bore you with all the details but I believe a Huey crashed in 69 or 70 killing the crew chief who I believe was named Sammy Harris. As I recall the pilot survived.
I am trying to locate anyone familiar with the incident. Our upcoming 40th High School Reunion is approaching and if I can confirm one way or another that this Sammy Harris is from Boston (Dorchester HS ),MA I want to make sure he is honored on our "In Memoriam" Board.

I think he is looking for a stateside crash at New River in 69-70. VMO-1 was the East Coast squadron training replacement UH-1E crewmen for Vietnam. I was in 'nam at this time, maybe some of the guys that were assigned to VMO-1 before, or after their tours in country can help.

Mike
As Jardo said, I was called to do escourt duty after a Huie crash in New River. SgtMjr Burns taped me for duty, Top Alford was maint. chief. Jardo was Crew Chief just back from RVN and I was 19 and green as a gourd. If as Jardo mentioned, the bird went down into an A&P down town J'ville then I'm the guy that can help you. If another crash then I was there but may have little to add. Reply here or e-mail me direct re. VMO-1.
