Mr. Heller has requested assistance in getting in touch with any Pilots or Aircrew involved in the failed IRAN RESCUE attempt. I know LtCol James Schaefer was the lead pilot. If anyone could offer Mr. Heller any help in finding the whereabouts of Col Schafer so he can speak w/the Col.

George,

Myself (1stSgt K.D. Logue), MGySgt B.J. Sigman III, and MSgt Charles Lightle, all members of Popasmoke, were some of the crewmembers of the Iranian Hostage Rescue Attempt, 24 April 1980. We all know who the aircrew and pilots were. The one with the best knowledge of anyones wherabouts is B.J. Sigman.

I could not get anything done on the website provided.

Semper Fi, K.D. Logue

K.D.

WELCOME HOME my brother

Be advised, I corrected the URL, also be aware this is a Radio Station, I do not completely understand the motive for the original request. I advise you to go slow, I believe he wants info on what aircrews turned back and why. I think his motives are OK, but you might want to go slow with names or points of contact. I was on active duty then and also at new River, I am very PROUD of all of you.

Roger that!

I agree completely, Bill!

It was a pleasure meeting you KD! Really enjoyed your "bar tending" repartee (SP).

Also, thanks for the Beckwith book and the excellent clarification of the disaster in the desert.

I need to get in contact with Chuck. Even though Texas is a BIG state, I think I can handle it.

After all, the Crossfire made it to Reno and back last week.

I keep looking to see if Wally did his parking lot tour last week and caught a pic of my "German Kar" πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

He had one of my "rice burner" in P-Beach.

Irainian Rescue Mission

I was in HMH-461 from '81 to '83, and there were a few of the Marines that were involved in the mission still in the squadron. I do not remember if they were maintenance or aircrew here they are Gysgt. Geoffry Coffin, had orders to N.A.S. Alameda in '82 or 83. Sgt. Joe Harold, last information I had, was he died of cancer in '83 or '84. Major Petty, squadron X.O had jsut finished his recovery from the burns he suffered.
Lt Gen Charles Pittman was in charge of the helicopter detachment. The new E-club (1982 or there abouts) at New River was named after Cpl. George Holmes, one of the Marine aircrew that were killed. One other Marine aircrew was, I believe, Ssgt. Dewy Johnson. Another Marine who I believe was at Desert One was a Sgt. Williams, a former New Orleans Police officer turned Marine. He was, if I remember what he told me, part of HMX at that time, could be wrong on that though. My memory is a little cloudy after 23 years, but that is what I remember. I hope I have the right names.

The person who probably knows the most about this mission is LtGen C. Pittman (Ret). He used to brief it occasionally.
