Looking for any Air Crew member from HMM-263 who flew support on Operation Orange, April66. Especially looking for Air Crew from HMM-263 flying the H-36 that crash landed in hot LZ on the afternoon of 2April66, and then burned that night. Info needed for new book by Billy Myers, who wrote "Honor the Warrior".

Regarding operation Orange

John, here is a web site that may help you find the info you are looking for. Just look under HMM-263 and search.

I was in country at that time but I can't recall any thing that might help you. I have contact with quite a few member and have sent your request to them.

Good luck in your search. HMM-263 was and still is a great squadron.

They (recordsofwar.com) don't have anything earlier than Aug 66 for 263. Same with the Texas Tech site.

Operation Orange

Thanks Gary and hma1369 I really appreciate your help. I started helping Billy Myers 7 months ago and for those 7 months we have been looking for anyone from HMM-263 that flew missions in support of Operation Orange, so far with no luck. Thanks again.

I received your email on the NOTAM post for Operation Orange in April of '66. I was the pilot of the aircraft that landed in the zone and was burned that night. It was the first EG-5 and if I remember correctly you crewed the next EG-5. The one they burned had Snoopy painted on the door. We were on a med-evac and I was flying wing on Maj. Jerry Kettering. They were shooting at him and hit our bird and knocked out the engine so we left it. We thought we were on fire but they just hit an oil line. Ken Reed way my co-pilot but I can't remember the rest of the crew. Doc Rundle was flying in the first bird. The zone was a company CP -- it was very hot -- so we planned to retrieve the bird the next day.
