I flew '34's with HMM-263 and also build models[ IPMS member]. I am trying to model the helos at Marble Mtn in the 66-67 era when I was there. Does anyone have a Huey Natops book with a good picture of the side guns/rocket pod mount? I will pay copy charges and postage if someone can help me out with a clear copy. Thanks in advance and Semper Fi. Joe Hanner

I would suggest that you use the 18 shot rockett pods vice the wimpy 7 shot ones. Air frames change 7 is the gun kit that first armed our Hueys.

If you have a bad tube it becomes a 18 shot. A switch on the pod could be set for ripple or pairs.

It was an 19 shot pod designed to be shot shotgun style off fast movers as an air to air weapon. We had to add an intervalometer (sp?) in one of the tubes so that we could shoot singles or whatever was set. So it really was a 18 shot pod. Lanny

As an Ordnanceman from 66 to 88, the only 2.75in rkt pods I saw were 7 and 19 shot pods. the 19's were either a one shot pod with paper tubes or reuseable ones with metal tubes.

That is what I remember. We could set the pods for single or ripple and they where either 7 or 19 shots.
The problem occured when one side was set for single and the other for ripple.
Didn't like going side ways:eek:

The pod installed intervalometer was replaced after a crew chief at Pendleton installed one and took the blast from a fully loaded rocket pod. The only thing that saved him was his flight jacket and helmet. The intervalometer was moved to the center console. It could be set up for the time between the rockets firing and order of fire or singles.

19 Pod Salvo x2

I was flying with VMO-6 in support of the 2nd ROK Marine Brigade in the Batangan penisula in 1967...on my first pass (gun run), I selected rockets and fired from about 800-1000 ft agl...much to my surprise, both 19 rocket pods "salvoed" and I almost stopped short in flight...it was amazing to watch thirty-eight, 2.75 rockets zoom and corkscrew into the target area...the impacts were spectacular, and the grunts thought it was on purpose and shouted their appreciation while I slinked away to re-arm at Ky-Ha...lesson learned! God bless, and...Semper Fi! Bill (Bullethead) Miles

God bless, and...
