There was an incident in which a friend of mine, while being removed from the field (KIA) slipped out of the cargo net he was placed in. He was in the battle of dia doi up by jones creek. This incident happened mid march 1968. I am now speaking with the Bn. CO and the Co CO Fox, 2/4. I'm requesting any intel on what squadron might have been envolved. Apparently there was an investigation, however he still remains in MIA status. I have been to see the det. two people in viet nam, they acknowledged that he is on their list but the look on their faces suggested they were at a loss to figure out where to look. I am poping a smoke, read the color and come help me...over !

The most knowledgeable person I know in this field is Richard "Dickie" Hites, who works at JPAC, and he may be retired by now, Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command. He works in Hawaii and goes out all the time to the incident sites for investigation. JPAC has come out a couple of times for us to our reunions (HMM-262), and they spoke at the Popasmoke reunion in Reno. They investigate KIA/MIA and if they are not familiar with this incident, you can bet they will be very interested in it. Here is the JPAC contact web site:

http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/Contact.htm

You will need as much information as you can get, i.e. name of KIA/MIA, names involved, date/time, units involved, location of incident (as exact as you can get), etc.

correction

I posted info request on buddy lost from a/c while enroute to D med. He was KIA 12 MARCH 68 with F 2/4 (up at the Z). I posted that he was in cargo net slung fron helo...not true (to my relief). I also stated that i thot it might have been a 46...also not true. He was hand loaded aboard a 34 which i believe was SLF with 2/4 on board the Iwo Jima, HMM-363 i think was that sqd. I would still like to know if anyone has any info about this incident. THX
