Kennedy was crew chief on ch-46 flown by dale cors and ron groves during a hot extract of recon team partyline one in the southern ashau valley. this was the recon operation supporting operation cloud...which was cancelled on 4 august. the extract aircraft pilots were john connolly and bill lindsay. this '46 was hit and crashed while loading team in the zone, killing 3 recon team members and the crew chief, tom gopp. the backup '46 piloted by al kirk and don brodie pulled the wounded team members and pilots out. cors landed briefly near the crashed '46 and kennedy debarked and checked inside for survivors, finding none....a brave act considering the hot zone. i was the patrol leader and would like to comms with him. also with anyone who knew tom gopp well. years ago, one of his close friends from those days contacted me, but i don't have the name or email address any longer.
