John J Mondry Maj USMC
I have been looking for John Mondry for years. With the help of Brook Stevenson I found him today.
John Mondry is laid to rest in the National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.
Major Mondry died at the age of 46 on 10/31/85. John Mondry had been my OIC in late 1967 at VMO-5/HML-267. He was a captain then. He treated me like a brother. His younger brother was a Sgt in the grunts in RVN at the time.
When Capt. Mondry was in Vietnam as a UH-34 pilot, his aircraft suffered a devestating mine explosion beneath the cabin area killing his entire crew and pax. He was never the same again. We would occasionally speak about personal matters and he related to me that his big goal was to fly left seat in C-130's. I guess that never happened. I went to RVN a few months later and never saw or heard from him again-------but I never forgot him. For whatever reason I would stop and think what he was doing and would make some half hearted attempt to track him down. After all these years bitter tears filled my eyes. Perhaps John Mondry's name is not on THE WALL-------but it should be.
If anyone has knowledge of Maj Mondry's life and death and if he has any survivors, I would appreciate a heads up.
