Anyone who took care or flew these incredible choppers
VMO-1 and HMR(C)263 in the late 50's
VMO-6 & VMO-2 1961 thru 1963 for me.
I flew them in 1960-1963 with VMO-6 and VMO-2. They were fun to fly, but I'm glad we didn't use them country.
I joined VMO-6 (avionics) in April, 1965. We had 6 HOKs. By May they were gone and we were totally UH-1E. I work at the New England Air Museum and am the team leader on our latest restoration project, HOK-1/OH-43D (129801)

There were several VMO-6 HOKs at Rosenbaum Aviation (Medford, Oregon) when I got back from Vietnam in October ‘69. Rosenbaum converted aircraft for borate bombing and other suppression work, so I suspect that was what happened to them.
In 1957-58 I flew Cessna OE-1 Bird Dogs, Kaman HOK-1 Huskies, and Sikorsky HRS-3 Chickasaws in HMR(C)-161, 1st Marine Brigade, MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. However, we company grade pilots didn't often get to fly the HOK-1s because they were the preferred aircraft of the field grade pilots in the squadron.
