In the spring of 68 i crewed a bird with Mike Keane as my gunner. We brought in the remains of a recon team, droped at Dong Ha. Remains were badly decomposed with maggots. Aircraft was inpounded back at Quang tri. How would I go about getting info on this event. Thanks
HMM-163 spring '68
J Sitterly, I'd try the unit Diary of the Squadron 163. Has to be there. It may be classified though. The story is somewhere. Maybe Headquarters Marine Corps could help you, if you had the dates, and a Senator helping you. Semper Fi, and READY-APP.
Thanks. Remains were picked up at a base camp or out post. Knew we were in trouble when I saw the grunts on the ground with gas mask. All I remember from the conversation of the pilots were recon. Place of pick up and date I can't remember. We did not concern ourselves with those things in the belly. Just another day in Nam. How would one go about getting copies of unit diaries for 67 and 68? Thanks
