Looking for AAR for HMM 161 for June, July, August 1969. Any ideas, please?

Try http://www.vietnam.ttu.edu/ , they have some but it seems a lot of HMM-161 reports are missing.

Thanks. I have checked that and, as you reported, many of the HMM 161 reports are missing.

I don't know why so much of HMM-161's reports are missing. Maybe someone else can shed some light on where they might be.

Thoughts are.,that these reports were filed before the computer age & many hard copy AAR's have been miss handled or misdirected. Having been involved in research work for other brothers.,I've often run into this very same issue. The entire period from Sept. '66 - Oct. '67 is missing for HMM-165. Plenty of Command Chronologies...no AAR's. (Have at times found one unit's reports interspersed with another.)

When I researched this it seems as if after LtCol Elam took over the squadron stopped filing the individual reports and just started filing the consolidated reports.

Do the consolidated reports detail actions, dates and crew? Are they accessible?

Thanks!

Re: HMM 161 After Action Reports

Finally found a clue to this mystery. Boot up "The Texas Tech Virtual Vietnam 'Quick Search' " @ www.recordsofwar.com/vietnam/USMC. On the left.,scroll down to Provisional MAG-39 & check into their Command Chronologies for the time period that you are trying to research. It would appear that 161 was attached to them at that time. While more info concerning daily action is contained on their pages than normally found in CC's.,it is not as useful as would actual AAR's would be.
Also on Internet Archives look for "A History of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 161". You should use the PDF option to view this file. Contains text & B&W photos. The period between June & Aug. '69 is found on pp. 43-44.
If you're feeling really brave.,try the History & Museum Div.,HQ U.S.M.C.,Washington,D.C.. (However, this is not an option for those lacking beau-coups patience.)
Good hunting,
