Hello, my name is Cary White.
I am the nephew of First Lt. Cary Carson Smith of HMH-463. He was the Copilot of YH-21, which crashed 2/22/68 at Khe Sanh, killing both him and the Aircraft Commander, Capt. James Thomas Riley (a.k.a. "Rex" Riley.) I was only two months old at the time this happened and my mother had named me after her little brother. There is an indescribable reverence in my family for Cary. However, I only know what I have been told by my grandmother, mother and aunts. I was very moved by the narratives posted in the KIA incidents and the pictures of the wreckage on this site. If there is anyone else here with any personal recollections of Cary or of the crash that killed him, I would love to talk with you. God bless all of you. Semper Fi!

Dear Cary,
I am the daughter of Capt. James T. Riley (aka "Rex" Riley). I understand that your uncle was the copilot of my dads chopper. I am interested in any information you could share with me about their relationship and time spent in Vietnam together. I was 3 when dad was killed and have been trying to gather information or pictures of people that knew him. I would love to hear stories from anyone I can find that flew with him. Where is the best place to go?
