I'm posting this for Jim Macaulay that served with MATCU-62, and MATCU-68 as a GCA controller at Phu Bai, and Dong Ha.

This incident happened at Phu Bai in late 1967: While I was at Phu Bai and doing GCA's during WOXOF conditions one day, there was a co-pilot I was controlling (as I remember it...this could be slightly fogged by the years)... the pilot, crew chief, and gunner were either dead or wounded so badly they couldn't help at all, and he was pretty well shot up himself. When I finally got him on the runway, the folks from Alpha Med were there to greet him (someone else taxied the a/c off the r/w), but he wouldn't go to the medical until the corpsmen literally carried him, his arms hooked over their shoulders, into the GCA unit to shake my hand and personally thank me for saving his life. I know for certain this actaully happened, but it didn't dawn on me then what had happened until I was relieved by the night watch. I have always wondered what happened to this guy...whether he survived the war, and got back safely, but the thank you was something I'll always remember. Jim Macaulay jimac1@charter.net

Can anyone get the names of that crew for Jim. I know the MATCU Marines saved my butt a few times, but I never got to actually meet them. I told Jim if he joins us, and makes it to Reno there will be a lot of pilots, and crewmen who will be glad to give him the many thanks, and a few cold beers that he earned 35 years ago.
