My father in law just recently passed away...well, if you consider a year ago recently...my husband is interested in finding out if the helicopters that he flew in Vietnam are being used in Iraq or Afghanistan...is there any way i can get this information. I searched on BUNO and Vietnam and your site came up first in my results...

He apparently was a highly decorated pilot...i don't know personally, but do have the info from his obituary below:

"Col. Blanton served in Viet Nam where he performed medical evacuation of wounded Americans - often under hostile fire. While serving in Viet Nam, he was four-times awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross: the highest honor awarded to pilots. He was also awarded 57 Air Medals, a Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit and a number of other medals. The citations frequently referred to evacuating wounded Americans under hostile fire “…without regard for his personal safety.” Col. Blanton returned to Viet Nam for a second tour flying escort missions in Cobra helicopters. No aircraft he escorted was ever shot down."
Anyway, I would appreciate any help that you might be able to give me...my husband and i just recently found his orginal flight books from his entire career in the Marine Corp...maybe there is information in these, i just don't know exactly what to look for.

thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give us.
