Have we heard anything from Roger Herman or from any of our other members who live in this area? Hope they are all ok.

re: California Fires

I live in Hesperia, the 'upper desert' just north of San Bernardino Mountains.

I have not heard from Jim Nabors who lives just a few miles from me. He lives in Oak Hills and if he lived east of Interstate 15 was in a mandatory evacuation area yesterday..... I am not sure if it is still being enforced.

I live within 2 miles of that evacuation area but things have calmed down (fire that is) the wind is a constant 30 mph gusting upward of 40 mph out of the South. (The winds had been the other way around for almost a week prior to yesterday)

The smoke is a lot less prevalent today.

I do not know where Roger lives in San Diego. He may not be close to the fires at all. Let us hope.

Yesterday, it was like being on an alien planet. The sky was so full of smoke that it was an eerie sodium yellowy orange color and if you could get a glimpse of the sun it was an angry boiling orange/red, in the morning. The winds finally changed as I stated earlier and caused the smoke reversal Tuesday early evening.

Hope this helps.

California Fires

Larry,
I heard from Roger and all is well. He narrowly escaped the fires. Quite a few homes in his area were destroyed but he made out ok. Not sure of any of our other members.

Chatted with Ernie "Gooie" Gomez this afternoon. Says all is "cool" in the lake Elsinore area. Doesn't Mike Sullivan live down in the Escondido area? Anyone heard from him?

Brook,
Thanks for thinking of me.

Tuesday night the pass was closed. I went to the local bar then I slept on the floor of my office. I got home at 4:30 am and was told to evacuate. I live on the West side of the evacuation area next to I-15. I stayed at my house along with several other fools in the area. If you leave the CHP won’t let you back in. I have 1,000 feet of 2 inch fire hose that I connected to the fire hydrant. When my pool is finished I will buy a fire pump and suck it dry if we loose the hydrant water. The fire in Summit Valley came within 5 miles. I drove on the dirt roads several times and watched a hand crew put it out.

See you in Tahoe if not on the freeway. The truck with the big www.popasmoke.com sign in the rear window is mine.
