I kept a diary in Vietnam and in two weeks I will finish the book I have written from those entries, as well as from Marine Corps after action reports, command chronologies, unit journals, etc, of that time. My editor is just finishing up that process, and we are inserting footnotes to the events I mentioned, during the above time frame.
In the book, there are many instances where I mention a gunship, or helicopter medevacs, and until recently I had only thought of saying just that in the book.
A chopper came in and medevac out our dead and wounded.
But some of those helicopters took a lot of hits trying to get to us or in supporting us in many ways and I would like to give credit to who ever they were in the book.
I am looking for the helicopter crews, phantom jet pilots, AO that were there especially during operation Foster Nov 13-30 1967-
One occasion during foster around the Finger Lake area, two choppers were shot up pretty bad (Nov 21, 1967) trying to get out our dead and wounded. They had tried for four hours to come in, two different H-34’s got shot up, one USMC huey gunship alone had expended 3000 rds and 48 rockets supporting us that day.
Who were they what was their call signs? The book will be published and I would just like to give those men the credit they deserved.
And thanks bros for being there so many years ago.
