Pvt. John Goodfellow, a former high school classmate, suffered severe full body WP burns on 8/25/65 while on a sweep of the Yen Ne area south of Da Nang with Co F 2/9. From the records I have reviewed, two other Marines, Sgt C. K. Cooley and Pfc W. J. Banks suffered gunshot wounds in the same action. John's burns were severe, so whoever pulled him out will probably remember. The incident occurred at approximately 1400 on 8/25/65. It appears all three were medevaced at the sametime.
John subsequently passed away in 1971 from his injuries and the burdens that they placed upon him. I am hopeful that John will be recognized as a casualty of the War and be properly recognized on the Wall. Any information about John's service or the events of 8/25/65 will assit me in discussing the matter with his remaining relatives.
I served as Scarface 43 with HML-367 in 1970 and will greatly appreciate any assistence.

FYI
I hope this helps someone remember
in August 1965, 2/9th Marines, located on the east coast of South Vietnam in the Da Nang tactical area of responsibility, occupied an area of approximately one hundred and fifty square miles. Bounded by three major rivers, the Song Cau Do to the north, Song Yen-Song Vu Gia to the west, and the Song Thu Bon-Song Ky Lam to the south, the zone of action contained numerous small riverways, heavy vegetation, and a relatively high population density
