While attempting to rescue the crew of a downed VMO-6 OY-2 (Odenbaugh and Rivers), Lt Bancroft's HO3S-1 was shot down 10 mi. north of Seoul, near Uijongbu. Lt Bancroft was rescued, but died from his injuries.
