I was digging around in my archives and found an old pic of YL-37 in much
worse condition at Khe Sanh in early 1968 during the siege.
The YL-37 that flew at the 2006 Reunion in Fort Worth was somewhat of a
pretender.
It is an old David Douglas Duncan pic taken around the day that we flew
Maj Gen Rathvon M. Tompkins to Dong Ha as a lone passenger on an
empty CH53.
I know this because the #4 34 in the background of the pic, with the "eyes",
is the one we attempted to pick up and failed because it was improperly rigged.

I guess all the KS YL-37 junk was returned and it was rebuilt.
YL-37 and YP-4
Mike, YL-37 that flew into the Reunion at Ft. Worth was a restored 34 built by a group in Oklahoma. They chose that number to honor the marines lost in HMM-362.
YP-4 in the background belonged to HMM-163. No sure who the crew chief was as I left country in Oct 67.

YL37 --- understood
YP-9,
Understood, a fitting tribute.
I'm sure YP-4 came out of Khe Sanh, just not on the first try, when
we made the attempt.
