I have not received this particular message through our Popasmoke but it is almost verbatim to many I have received for the last 8 years, the best part is those scammers can't even get the tenses correct and must think every American is as ignorant as our current President. I just tell them their e-mail has been forwarded to my State Attorney and the U S Attorney General and for them to wait until they heard from tone of them before sending the money to me.

I have had some issues w/ my emails and FB private message center in the last few months.

This woman has been hacked by another variation on the nigerian scam

It's just a variation on the nigerian scams. I have received this same message via email (my personal email) from the same person.

The question is how did they get into pas' notam board? (if i read the message correctly).

Answer/s:
1.) they have really very good hackers or...

2). A pas member gave her the means to access the page, or..

3.) a pas member was dumb enough to get it thru his/her personal email and reply to it for any number of reasons... I can think of many reasons someone would actually reply to these scams.

Unfortunately there is no law against being 'stupid'.

My latest personal EMAIL scam a couple of weeks ago was out of (england).

The message said that their 'firm' selected by the united nations in nyc had authorized them to refund me any monetary losses i may have suffered following the 9/11 attacks on the trade towers in nyc.

All i had to do was give them my banking account details and they would automatically deposit a bunch of cash in my account. Uh...huh.

I've been scammed (they tried but failed), by all the nigerian variables and also from others like fake citi bank (click on this link) and update your account. This is just one of so many i've lost count.

When i started getting citi bank update your account scams i called them direct and they had me take the scam message and send it to their email address: Something like
http:www.citibank.com/spoof THAT IS MORE THAN LIKELY INCORRECT AS A URL SINCE I JUST TYPED IT AS I SORTA REMEMBERED IT. SO THERE YA GO. IF YOU HAVE CITI BANK ACCOUNTS YOU CAN LOG IN TO A SECURED SITE AND FIND OUT WHAT THE URL IS FOR 'SPOOF' SCAMS.

then they follow up on it and try to track it down via a number of means; like the sender's isp, etc....

I'm dumber than dirt but not stupid.
NOTE THAT MANY OF THESE SCAMMERS USE PUBLIC COMPUTERS WHICH ARE HARD TO BACK TRACE. IF THEY'RE STUPID THEY WILL USE THEIR OWN BUT THAT IS RARE.

1. For lack of a better term; this notam board is more or less a social network; like others. Tell me if i am wrong.

2. If anyone here uses the more famously known so called 'social networks' such as:
Twitter
ipods or any pod for texting
face book(a really bad idea)
u-tube and others; including blogs where one has to sign in to reply on a blog or the others.

Your giving millions of people access to your email.

In many cases you have to sign into one of these 'social networks' to use it by giving them your name, email and other personal information.

Then these social networks trade/buy or sell the information. Just like corporations do if you log in or say; fill out a 'warranty card' on something you've purchased.

The majority of social network users use them for communications; then again; there are numbers of people who do nothing but collect the information on the users.

Sooner or later someone will give away something they shouldn't on a social network and then your toast.

I get tons of junk email and snail mail from people and companies i have never used or done business with. How do they get my email not to mention my full name and address?

I could go on about this but why spend the time.

If pas is a social network (which i think it is); anyone can hack into it.

Ps: Wally i'll try to send you an email later this morning on pas' main page (toward the bottom) 'random comments' or something like that; i just read about 0715 hours hst. It contradicts the notam board regs. On language. If you can't see it or it changes every time one goes to the main page and you miss it; i'll email you what it said.

Have not posted anything; just read. However after i post this i am going to log out then before i quit my browser i am going to clear cookies as i do every time (AND) i think i will find something interesting.

If i find what i expect to find. I'll copy and paste it and post it later today. Can't do that right now; got stuff to do here in our two year long drought (aka: Paradise) before it gets to warm. But if i find what i expect to find on cookies when i clear them as i aways do to leave no internet footprint. I think it might be sorta interesting.

Well my browser 'cookies' thing didn't work. I can see it but i can't copy or save or paste it. I can't 'grab' it either.

It must be some sort of security thang to prevent someone else from copying the cookies.

What i did was to come to pas, not logged in; and then logged in; (BOTH).
What i saw when i went to my internet browser to clear cookies was several pas' lines of this n' that. Then it was followed by two lines of reference to pas and twitter.

I don't really find that comforting; but i can live with it; just have to be careful.

After all 'twitter' is a social network. No big thing. I do the same with other sites i go to on line.

NOT THAT LONG AGO I WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO 'PARK' AN IRA. ONE OF THE SITES I WENT TO (AND JUST READ; BUT DID NOT SIGN IN) WAS I THINK A BROKERAGE CALLED 'SCOTT'S E-TRADE'.

LIKE I SAID I DIDN'T SIGN IN I JUST WENT TO THE HOME PAGE URL TO READ. I DECIDED THIS INVESTMENT ORG. WAS NOT FOR ME. HOWEVER I DID READ THRU SEVERAL PAGES (WITHOUT LOGGING IN). THEN I SELECTED THEIR 'HOME' PAGE TO BOOKMARK JUST INCASE I CHANGED MY MIND.

BOY WAS I SURPRISED. WHEN I RETURNED TO THEIR HOME PAGE I FOUND A NOTE THAT SAID (MORE OR LESS) THANK YOU FOR VISITING E-TRADE. IT HAD MY FULL NAME, ADDRESS AND EMAIL?

THAT SCARED ME STUPID. SO WHEN I GOT OUTTA THERE; I DID MY ROUTINE; CLEAR HISTORY, CACHE THEN COOKIES; QUIT THE BROWSER; AND REBOOT. I ALSO DELETED THE BOOKMARK TOO.

THAT WORKED, SORTA. I HAD USED THE BIG SEARCH ENGINE 'GOOGLE' TO FIND THEIR HOME PAGE. OOOPS.

EVERY TIME YOU USE GOOGLE IT UPDATES YOUR 'EXPIRATION DATE' AND IT REMEMBERS. YOU CAN'T DELETE IT FROM COOKIES. IT SHOWS UP EVERY TIME.

Sounds like kind of a fun idea - especially if you're spending spring break in Cancun and want to make your friends jealous - but...

"Do you really want everybody knowing where you are or more importantly - where you're not - which means you're not in your dorm or you're not at home - someone could just break in and take advantage of knowing where you are."

Newman says, it's a good idea - whatever your age or level of technological skill - to keep track of your credit report. And talk to your bank about ID theft protection.

"Most of the local banks offer different ID theft protection services now and it's a really great opportunity very often tied to their account that they should take advantage of."

Heard this yesterday on national media. Just goes to show you how inventive or invasive these scammers can be.

As you know lots of idiots sign up for face book. The bad guys who monitor those morons and gather info on them have 'FOUND' a new scam to clean out ONE'S bank account/s (If they have any left).

What they do is take advantage of the thousands of people out of work in the USA offering them 'insider' information on available jobs.

Of course if you are contacted (having posted on face book) 'YOUR' lack of employment in these horrible economic times; USUALLY WITH YOUR FACELESS-BOOK FRIENDS.

These people will ask you for all your personal information including your social security number and such. Stating they will use their 'insider' information to get you a good job.

If you take the bait and some have; THEN they clean you out. End of story.

These face book idiots will talk to others on those sites and tell others how they have experience or had a job in this or that and now have been unemployed for two years.

The scammers pick up on that and toss out the lure. You bite and it's over.

On the other side of the coin... We have the long lived and tried and true 'Head-Hunters'.

I'm in here on the box and listening to CNN at the same time.

Just heard that 'TWITTER' has said JUST ANNOUNCED that someone has introduced a bug or virus into the TWITTING NETWORK. Like I said when I clear cookies when backing out of the internet I see 'TWITTER' appended to PAS.

Ya'll who tweet; watch your collective six.

I WAS WATCHING CNN yesterday (my favorite CNN segment is 'Rick Sanchez', aka ...
'Rick's List'.

It appears that the Twitter virus was introduced by a young Japanese computer geek/hacker from Japan who 'claimed' to have introduced it for 'The good' of the Twitter users? Not sure of that rationale.

At the same time CNN was announcing this little tidbit; all of them on the show were busy receiving and sending 'Tweets'? I'm so confused.

I 'Think' the jist or rationale of the Japanese hacker who inserted the virus was to monitor it somehow to protect Twitter users? Like I said ... I'm confused.

Nothing was mentioned of him disabling the virus so I assume he still can monitor Tweets. To what end is anyone's guess.

The young man claims he does this for the 'good' of the public (worldwide) and sites an example of where he hacked into some company's network and found a flaw that could have been hacked and repaired it and was paid by said company about $177.00?

He didn't state whether or not the company allowed him to go thru their system to look for flaws. On the other hand while he claims he introduced the virus into the Twitter program; he didn't state if that was allowed.

I assume he just did it expecting monetary reward. Not to forget this hacker does not own that 'social network'.

And 'simple logic' (Commander Spock speak) would seem to dictate that if he can introduce a virus into twitter to 'moniter' it; then it means he can read tweets and collect data on the users. Right?

Okay; this is 'indeed a scam' but the type that sort of falls between the cracks.

IN A NUTSHELL THIS IS HOW IT WORKS, OR WILL WORK ... MAKE THAT MORE THAN LIKELY WILL WORK.

AS WE KNOW THE BIG 'O' LIKES TO USE HIS POWER OF 'EXECUTIVE ORDER', MORE SO THAN HIS PREDECESSORS GIVEN HIS TIME IN OFFICE TO DATE.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS THE F.B.I. HAS USED THE INTERNET TO FIND SOME ANTI-AMERICAN EMAILS AND OTHER FORMS OF INTERNET COMMUNICATION FROM AN AMERICAN FROM PALESTINE TO SOME FOREIGN RECIPIENT.

IT WOULD APPEAR THAT AS WE ALL KNOW THE FEDS HAVE AND DO MONITOR INTERNET/EMAIL TRAFFIC ANYHOW... THEY DO NOT NEED NOR EVER NEEDED AN OFFICIAL DOCUMENT ISSUED BY A COURT TO DO SO.

I MEAN THAT IS THE ALLEGED LAW BUT MOST OF THE TIME THE FBI DOESN'T WAIT ON A COURT'S ORDER FOR PERMISSION.

SO, BASED ON THIS PALESTINIAN'S INTERNET COMMUNICATIONS THEY WANT THE BIG 'O' TO USE HIS EXECUTIVE ORDER TO ENACT A LAW (RIGHT NOW) SO THAT THEY CAN MONITOR ALL EMAIL AND INTERNET COMMUNICATIONS; WHICH AS STATED THEY ALREADY DO ANYWAY?

IN THE DAYS BEFORE THE INTERNET; THE FBI JUST TAPPED PHONES WHEN THEY WANTED TO; AND STILL DO.

PHONE TAPPING IS (PRE-INTERNET DAYS), HOW THEY TRACKED MLK IN HIS LAST MINUTE DECISION TO GO TO MEMPHIS IN 1968.

SPOKES-PERSON FOR THE FBI STATED THIS REQUEST TO MONITOR ALL EMAIL/INTERNET TRAFFIC (WHICH THEY ALREADY DO) WOULD ALLOW THEM TO MONITOR EVERYONE FOR OUR 'OWN SAFETY'. HUH?

BASICALLY IF THIS EXECUTIVE ORDER WERE GRANTED THEY WOULD NOT HAVE TO WAIT FOR A COURT ORDER (WHICH THEY DON'T USE IN MOST CASES THEN AND NOW)? ANYONE CONFUSED YET?

THE FBI SPOKES-PERSON STATED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE USED TO EXPAND THEIR AUTHORITY OR POWER OVER AMERICANS. (HUH? IS A GIVEN).

1.) HAVE SOFTWARE CORPORATIONS AND COMPANIES THAT PRODUCE THIS TYPE OF INTERNET SECURITY RE-WRITE IT SO THAT THE FBI HAS ACCESS TO THE ENCRYPTION CODES.

THIS WOULD TAKE CARE OF NEW COMPUTER USERS/BUYERS.

2.) FOR THE REST OF US; THEY WANT THE MAIN COMPUTER CORPORATIONS LIKE MICRO-SOFT AND MACINTOSH TO USE THE RE-WRITTEN SECURITY CODES AND DOWNLOAD THEM TO OUR COMPUTERS.
