Had an opportunity to use VA services in the "Big City" the other week (16 RON's). Lotsa personalized attention, tests, and interviews (re: symptoms).
Started getting "antsy" the last few days until my projected release date, and started to roam the halls a bit, looking for books, mags, newspapers, and the like. Down on the first floor (actually the lobby), had a chance to meet up with a few (once there were 3) guys who were "bunked out" in the various lounge areas...2 said they awaiting an early appt and there was no trans from their home to make it on time, one said (he was there all 3 times) that they were just homeless and the VA lobby was a safe haven in these cases, the night "staff" were sympathetic to their cause. I helped them out with some $ for the vending machines, but didn't have much to offer, the night nurses eventually figured out that I had found these guys...and asked me to just leave it go @ that.:(

It is sad ! I was in their shoes not too long ago myself (until I perfected my V A claim ) I was very ill and home less and Thank God i had an old van to live in the mountains in. it took a long time to PROVE to the V A what I was saying was true ! no one will hire a OLD homeless vet especially if they are sick and gimped up.thats how a lot of us got homeless.I hope the hell they don't treat the new batch they're making like they did us !!! sf kc

non illigitimus carborundum:)MAF gripe ... deadbugs on windshield...action taken...R&R with live bugs!
