Dear Gentlemen--I am the current care taker of the Rosedale Vietnam Monument in a little town called Rosedale in Queens NY. I was lucky enough to meet one of your members, Arthur Larsen while I was cleaning up around the monument. He told me about your group and I was glad to hear about it.
Our Rosedale monument was erected and dedicated on Memorial Day 1968. Many beleive it is the first in New York state and possibly the country. In any case, doesnt matter much if it is the first or second-just that is there to honor ALL Vietnam vets. It was built at a time when those serving in Vietnam were not treated too well back here in the states. It took community people to collect money and build it. I have been trying to take care of it since it was my eagle socut project in 1976.
Anyway, this monument turns 40 years old this year. We are making plans to have a modest service on Saturday, May 24, 2008 beginning at 10:30 AM to celebrate 40 years of honoring all our Vietnam Vets throughout the country. We will be busy cleaning up, painting and planting over the next few weekends. I would like to invite all that may have an interest in attending. Its not going to be a big fancy event, just one that will pay tribute to those that served and let all know that they are not forgotten, nor will they we as long as enough of us non-veterans are around. Please consider this an open invite to all-the monument is located along the POW-MIA Highway in Rosedale Queens--at the intersection of Francis Lewis Blvd.
We are about 10 minutes from JFK Airport.
Thanks to you all for all you have done for the USA, not its our turn to properly thank you!Best regards to all,
Frederick Kress
