As some of you may know, I have been on a 'Road Trip'. I started from my home a short time after we got home from the FT Worth Reunion. It lasted a short 4 days when I had electrical problems and my brand new GPS 'died'..... after returning home from Dallas and getting things replaced and repaired I left again..... my Road Trip was begun to reach out to former Association members/squadron members that have not been coming to our reunions or that I have been in contact with via phone or emails. We are not getting any younger and we are getting thinner in numbers. Also, I have been trying to see MARCADs that I either went through Flight school with, were Squadron members, or have met from the MARCAD site and just been in email or phone contact. To date I have been in the Phoenix area, Houston area, Baton Rouge area, Pensacola and Mobile area, Tallahassee area, Tampa area, Beaufort area, Alexandria/D.C. area, Stamford Connecticut area and tomorrow I will be in the greater Boston area.
I will then be heading back on the long road back to southern California. If I have missed you I apologize. I hope that my journey will instill in those that were not met and all others that browse our organization's website realize that we all need to recognize our numbers are being reduced daily and we should hold dear our relationships with our brother Marines.
If you see this '06 GMC Sierra, it is/was me!
Long Drive Over
I finally got home from my Road trip December 2, 2006. Along the way I saw Brother Marines that I had not seen since 1967. I also attempted to meet some of our Brothers that have not been coming to our Reunions, (Popasmoke or Squadron/Units) and those Brother Marines that I have met through the Internet including Popasmoke, MARCAD.net or HMM-363.us. There were some that we could not get our schedules to mesh or as things happen something came up. I traveled 16,000+ miles starting from my home in Hesperia, CA and stopping in Queen Creek AZ, El Paso TX, Ft Worth TX, back to Hesperia. After 10 days and some maintenance and repair back to El Paso, Houston, Baton Rouge, Pensacola, Tallahassee, Tampa Bay area, Beaufort SC, Alexandria VA, Stamford CT, Freetown MA, greater Chicago Area, flew home for 5 days and returned to vehicle, back to Tampa Bay area, Baton Rouge, back to greater Chicago area then headed home. I should have taken pictures, but two of the guys I did see after all these 39 going on 40 years were fellow MARCADs one of which was a squadron mate, I did get a group picture of us in Wesley Chapel, FL; Jack 'Screw' Warner and Gary Gard. I am glad I took the trip otherwise I might never have done it on the other hand, if you plan one, make sure you have a pile of cash π
Looks like fun!
Brook,
I'm sure the "Screw" let you know he is still current in his present aircraft! Looks like you went to his favorite place, is it an "Outback"? He's quite a guy, as I'm sure you know. Looks like fun to me!:D
