I just returned from a trip to our island. What agreat time! I went with a group from the MCL. We were asignded a DI to guide us around and we were given total access to the base. Veiwed the troops training in various phases and got right up close with them! Ate at the messhall several times, also with the troops. Went to graduation and almost cried when they played the hymn.Again, I just want to say this was one fo the greatest expeirences I've ever had. Believe me when I tell you the Corps is alive and well! The DI's and the troops at Parris Island are the best there is anywhere! If any of you get the chance to go back, don't pass it up. Semper Fi! saltydog

Parris Island re-visit

I've been wanting to do this since 1966! Of course, like all of us, I couldn't wait to get the heck out of there after graduation! I have been wanting to go back ever since!! Like to go back to New River, too, but P.I. would be a special treat! May do it in conjunction with the 2008 reunion!
Thanks for the memories!

returned as well

i too returned to the island a couple of years back. had not been back since i got shipped out in '62. lots of changes but still the same. i gave my wife, a former air farce vet, a tour of the place explaining what was happening as we went. there were several platoons marching on the grinder with 75 or so going this way and 75 or so going that way and so on or about at least 10 platoons marching around. i noticed my wife looking around and around with a puzzled look on her face. when i asked what the problem might be she asked, where do they all park thier cars?

Do not know why this popped into my head while reading the above, but my wife was blond at the time. We were new to NAS Whiting and our first time off a USMC base, my last post before retiring. She saw the Navy people on the base and said they were "Slop Happy." She also says things like "Water over the bridge." Not blond any more. Lanny πŸ˜€
